Western Union Provides Relief Efforts in Response to Hurricane Irma

KINGSTON, JAMAICA–September 9, 2017 – To support communities and families affected by Hurricane Irma’s devastation in the Caribbean, The Western Union Company, a leader in global payment services, The Western Union Foundation, and participating Western Union’s Agents in the Caribbean today announced rapid response efforts as follows:


  • Agent Locations Open for Business: Western Union® Agent network in St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, and Dominica is currently open and available* for those wishing to send and/or pick-up cash.

  • Fee-Free Money Transfers: Effective September 9 through September 15, Western Union will provide $0 fee** money transfers to Antigua and Barbuda, when sending from selected Western Union® Agent locations across the globe and via and the Western Union mobile app where available.

  • Financial Support: The Western Union Company and the Western Union Foundation have committed US$100,000 to the Red Cross to support relief efforts from Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean and the US. The Western Union Foundation will also provide a 1:1 match of qualifying contributions from participating Western Union Agents and a 2:1 match from contributions made by Western Union employees.   • Red Cross Donations: Consumers who want to take advantage of the fee-free donations at selected Western Union Agent locations in the US can donate directly to the American Red Cross. To donate, complete the blue Payments section on the Western Union form, using “American Red Cross” as the Pay To recipient; “REDCROSS DC” as the Code City, along with “Hurricane Irma Relief” in the Account field.
