GraceKennedy Education Run set for July 4

The second staging of the GraceKennedy 5K Education Run will kick off on the Kingston Waterfront on Sunday, July 4 at 7:00 a.m. The route will take runners, walkers and wheelchair participants from the start line in front of GraceKennedy’s head office on Harbour Street, onto Highholborn Street, through Breezy Castle, right onto Port Royal Street, left onto Ocean Boulevard, left onto Royal Royal Street, right onto Marcus Garvey Drive going onto Harbour Street, turning right onto Highholborn Street through Breezy Castle and ending on Port Royal Street.

The GraceKennedy Education Run is staged in support of the educational programmes of the Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation. Proceeds go towards funding tuition and related expenses for secondary and tertiary level students in Kingston’s inner city communities. In addition to supporting the community programmes, the Education Run also aims to enhance efforts to position downtown Kingston as an attractive venue for events.

Race director Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis is promising another well-managed event supported by the neighbouring Central Kingston communities, whose young residents are among the beneficiaries of the Run. Over 1,000 participants completed the inaugural event in 2009 which raised $1.8 million in support of educational programmes in Kingston’s inner city communities.
