Shawn Pitter, 24-year-old runner, was the first person to complete the inaugural GraceKennedy Education 5k Walk/Run held on Sunday, July 5 in Downtown Kingston.
Mr. Pitter completed the run with a time of 15:01, ahead of his closest rival 42-year-old Andrew Gutzmore who clocked a time of 17:17. Arieta Martin was the first female runner to cross the finish line in a time of 19:52. Karlene Blagrove came in second in a time of 19:55. Special Olympian Tanto Campbell won the male wheelchair section with a time of 20 minutes while Special Olympian Sylvia Grant was the female to cross the finish line in a wheelchair with a time 41minutes. In the male walk category Maxwell Smith was the first in while Andre McIntosh was second. In the female walk category Emeleta Thomas-Wilmot came in first while Sharon Edwards placed second.

Over 1,000 participants turned out for the event which had as its main objectives to raise funds to assists students of inner-city communities to further their education.
