First Global Insurance Brokers Limited (FGIB), a wholly owned subsidiary of GraceKennedy Limited, has purchased the insurance brokerage portfolio of United Reliance International Limited (URI), the largest insurance brokerage in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The acquisition is effective on October 1, 2008.
A photographic exhibition mounted by GraceKennedy Limited in association with the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), aptly titled “From the Hills to the Waterfront” is now on display at the IOJ foyer.
The exhibition features pieces from children enrolled in the Learning Institute of Central Kingston (LICK) homework centre facilitated by the Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation which is the community outreach arm of GraceKennedy Ltd.
GraceKennedy Limited has supported the efforts of the Jamaican government to assist the people of Haiti in the wake of devastation of that island by four weather systems. The company’s donation, valued at approximately J$3.3 million, included many of our ready to eat products such as Grace Corned Beef, Grace Instant Porridge, Grace Sardines, as well as an assortment of canned beans. The items left the island on Friday, September 12 above a coast guard vessel along with other supplies.
Joe Taffe, Acting CEO of GraceKennedy Investments, urged beneficiaries of the 2008 Carlton Alexander Bursary Awards to emulate the performance of Jamaica’s high performing Olympic team members as they pursued their studies in the upcoming academic year. He noted that the Jamaican Olympic team had demonstrated what was possible with application, determination, hard work and the will to succeed. “Our athletes showed the world what can be achieved through hard work, discipline, determination and heart,” Mr Taffe said.
