Peter Moss-Solomon Retires from the Board of GraceKennedy

GraceKennedy’s director Peter Norton Moss-Solomon has retired from the board of GraceKennedy Limited having reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 years for the parent board. This was announced by Chairman & CEO Douglas Orane at the company’s Annual General Meeting on May 28, 2008.

Mr. Moss-Solomon began his career with the company in 1958 as a billing clerk at Sheffield & Co. Ltd. He worked for the next 11 years in other areas including Steamship Agencies Department, Rums Ltd. and the company’s Merchandise division.

Over the years he served in several posts, including that of Deputy Managing Director of GraceKennedy Limited – Merchandise; Manager of the company’s Inspection division which he helped to establish, and which later became the Internal Audit Department. He served as Managing Director of George & Branday for five years and was responsible for the overall implementation and management of the merchant bank’s objectives, policies and strategic plans. At the time of his retirement in 1998, he held the post of Finance Director.

Mr. Moss-Solomon was appointed a Director of the Board of GraceKennedy Ltd. in July 1975. He served as Chairman of the Audit and Banking committees of the Board and as a member of the Corporate Governance Committee.

Mr. Moss-Solomon served as Chairman of the Board of the GraceKennedy Foundation from 2002 to 2007, and as a director of the Luis Fred Kennedy Environmental Foundation. He was also, for many years, a director and President of the Grace Co-operative Credit Union.

A firm believer in the role of voluntarism in national development, Mr. Moss-Solomon has, over the years, given his time to several organizations. These include the Jamaica Red Cross where he served as President for five years; the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS), where he served as Vice Chair; and the United Way of Jamaica, of which he was a founding member of the Board of Governors .

His other affiliations include membership on the Boards of Trustee of the Jamaica College Trust and the Boys’ Brigade Trust Fund, and chairmanship of the Priory School Trust Society.

In paying tribute to Mr. Moss-Solomon, Mr. Orane described the former director as the epitome of the GraceKennedy values established by the company’s founding families. He commended Mr. Moss-Solomon “for the integrity you have shown, the respect you have shown for other people and the fine example you have given to us, the leadership of the company, to carry on that tradition.”
