Mary Anne Chambers has held several senior positions in Systems Development, Project Management and Electronic Banking at Scotiabank in Toronto, retiring from the Bank as a Senior Vice-President in 2002.
Mrs. Chambers has a distinguished and extensive record of voluntary service in the education, health care and social service sectors in Canada. She served as a member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough from 2003-2007, and was appointed Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities in October 2003. In 2005, Mrs. Chambers was appointed Minister of Children and Youth Services. She is currently Chair of the Board of Directors and President of the Project for Advancement of Childhood Education (P.A.C.E.).
Mrs. Chambers obtained the Chartered Director (C. Dir.) designation from The Directors College (a joint venture of McMaster University and The Conference Board of Canada) in 2008. She is a Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD). She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto where she majored in Commerce in 1998 and Political Science in 2003. She also completed the Executive Management Programme at Queen's University School of Business in Kingston, Ontario in 1995. In 1979, she became a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers (F.I.C.B.) with Honours.
She was appointed to the Board of Directors of GraceKennedy Limited on May 26, 2011. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees and chairs the Governance Committee for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Canada), serves on the Board of Governors and the Audit Committee of the University of Guelph and the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Canada. She is also Chair of the Advisory Council for York University’s Centre for Education and Community (YCEC).
