
Professor Gordon Shirley has had a distinguished career as a diplomat, an educator and an administrator in higher education. He was appointed to the Board of GraceKennedy Limited on May 30, 1996, and is a member of the Corporate Governance & Nomination Committee and Audit Committee.
Professor Shirley is currently a Pro Vice Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (UWI) and Principal of its Mona Campus. He joined the staff of UWI in 1991 as the Carlton Alexander Professor of Management and Head of the Department of Management Studies. In 2001 he was appointed Executive Director of the Mona School of Business.
Between 2004 and 2007 he was seconded to the Government of Jamaica as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States of America. He served as Jamaica’ Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS).
In 2009 the Government of Jamaica appointed him a member of the Order of Jamaica in recognition of his excellence in academic and public service.
Ambassador Shirley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the UWI; as well as a Master of Business Administration (Hons.) in Operations and Finance, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration in Operations Management – both from Harvard University.
