Nissan TIIDA RECEIVES “INTER-AMERICAN CAR OF THE YEAR 2007” AWARD for LATIN AMERICA


AWARD GRANTED BY fipa (INTER-AMERICAN FEDERATION OF AUTO JOURNALISTS)

SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (Dec. 12, 2006) – Nissan Tiida was the proud recipient of the “Inter-American Car of the Year 2007” award granted by FIPA (Inter-American Federation of Auto Journalists). This organization represents over 70 journalists from 19 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean including Mexico and the US.

Nissan Tiida topped the category of Car of the Year amongst 58 models in the passenger vehicle category that included makes by Toyota, Mercedes Benz and BMW. This is the first time that Nissan has been awarded the most important award granted by a regional-wide organization.

Atsuo Kosaka, Director of Nissan Latin America and the Caribbean (NLAC) accepted the award from FIPA’s President, Mr. Maurizio Frigatti, at a ceremony attended by Latin American and domestic media, government officials and local celebrities.


“Nissan is proud to receive such a distinction against some of the toughest competition we face in the region,” said Kosaka. “Within a year of its launch, Nissan Tiida is now positioned as a popular car of choice with customers across our global markets. We deeply appreciate that the FIPA members have acknowledged Nissan’s reputation as a global and trustworthy brand that offers the best quality over price value proposition on its vehicles.”

Nissan Tiida’s list of global accolades includes “Car of the Year 2006” in China, “Best Compact Car” and “Best Small Japanese Car” in the Middle East. The compact car is currently available in over 81 countries worldwide.

“Nissan Tiida has earned this award due to its extraordinary roominess, its quality over price ratio and because is a great car that is simply fun to drive,” stated Maurizio Frigatti, President of FIPA. “We are delighted to have Nissan among this year’s winners of the FIPA award, and we are certain that the brand will continue to be on the public’s preferred buying list for the years to come.”

Nissan Latin America and the Caribbean oversees over 34 markets, excluding Mercosur, and has a sales forecast of over 78,000 units for 2006.
