Grace Foods International has donated US$10,000 (GUY$2 Million) worth of food supplies to the Guyana Red Cross Society (GRCS) to aid in the local flood relief efforts. T. Geddes Grant Guyana Ltd., exclusive distributor of Grace Foods in Guyana, handed over the items to the Red Cross on Friday, January 28, 2005.

The food items, which include baked beans, cocoa, chicken sausages and mackerel, will be distributed to residents along the East Coast and in some parts of the city who are still suffering as a result of the flood.

Richard Ross, International Marketing Manager for the Southern Caribbean – Grace Foods International, said that the company was happy to assist in the relief efforts of the Guyana Red Cross and other civic organisations. Ross noted that Grace Foods International operates in every Caribbean country and that the company was simply doing its duty as a corporate citizen by providing food relief to the Guyanese people in the current flood situation. Grace Foods also provided similar assistance to Grenada and Jamaica when both countries were battered by hurricane in the latter part of 2004.

Grace, Kennedy has been operating in Guyana for more than 13 years starting with the introduction of its line of Grace Foods in 1990. Grace, Kennedy Remittance Services (Guyana) was created in 1993 to bring the services of Western Union Money Transfer to the people of Guyana. GKRS (Guyana) is part of the Grace, Kennedy Information Services Division, which provides similar services in its mother territory, Jamaica, and also in Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti.
