Important Meetings in Grenada
From July 1 to 8, there will be two important meetings taking place in Grenada.The first is the Fourth Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on External Economic Negotiations to be held on July 2.The second is the 25th Regular Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community from July 4 – 7.These two meetings will run back to back and will address several important points concerning the development of trade matters. These will include updates and discussions on the following areas:-
- the World Trade Organisation (WTO) where efforts are being made to resume meaningful discussion towards the completion of the Doha Agenda
- The Caribbean/European Community Negotiations concerning economic partnership agreements. These commenced earlier this year and are to be ongoing.
- The Free Trade Areas of the Americas (FTAA) discussions particularly how these will be moved forward and what the scope of the agreement will include. The meeting will also discuss several bilateral measures notably:
- Canada/CARICOM (already started)
- CARICOM/MERCOSUR (being considered)
- CARICOM/USA (being considered) Other important issues that will receive attention will include
- an update and schedule for the completion of the CSME
- the situation in Haiti
- the Caribbean Court of Justice
All of these items will be of considerable importance to our company and following the meetings, we will have further discussion through this medium.
