David Burton

David Burton was born and raised in Sheffield. In 2004 he completed his first degree in Orthoptics and has just embarked on a medical degree programme at the University of Sheffield School of Medicine.

Going to live and work in Jamaica over a prolonged period of time was a refreshing change to life back in England. The living arrangements in Jamaica were all put together nicely. I had a great work experience at the largest trauma centre in the Caribbean (Kingston Public Hospital). Moreover the added seasoning of our cultural activities over the 2 months opened my eyes to new and exciting facts about our island! Added to that the comradeship of the participants and the great effort and organization shown by the Grace Kennedy Staff and you'll come to realize that we experienced the most remarkable summer of our young lives. The downside of this internship is that I can't imagine things getting any better; unless of course I'm invited back to undertake next summer's internship!

Jamaal Myers

Jamaal will be graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. Honours degree in Political Science in April, 2006. He has not only has received several awards and scholarships for academics and athletics but he has just been accepted to pursue postgraduate studies and the London School of Economics. Jamaal was born in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

My experience of Jamaica was truly a unique one. I got the advantage to see the country from a level that few other people ever get to see any country. Grace provided me the opportunity to meet and live with other accomplished Jamaicans from around the world as well as meeting some of its leading men and women such from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Erna Brodber who gave us a fascinating talk on the sociological make up of Jamaicans.

Moreover, the experience to work in one of the Caribbean's biggest company in currency trading allowed me to develop both my confidence in my interpersonal skills as well as an eye towards greater customer service. And of course no discussion of Jamaica could be complete without talk of its beaches, people, shopping, and nightlife! Jamaica has some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen from the Blue Mountains to the Black River. From a rich cultural heritage that can be found in the food or in the nightclubs, Jamaica was truly an experience that I would never forget and am very anxious to repeat!
